SABAH Nepal has successfully provided training to 330 participants (youth and women) on EDT (Entrepreneurship Development Training) under the PARYA Sampada project till date reaching the various heritage settlements such as Bungamati, Pilachhen, Chobar, Thankot, Balambu, Chapagaun, and Panga. The main aim of the training is to provide the participants with the entrepreneurial knowledge, while educating, empowering and enabling them to start their own business. Sanish Maharjan from Bungamati, one of the graduates of the training opened up a café in his community, named “Zyapuz Café.” He says, “the training gave me confidence to start my own business. I was unaware on the know-hows of entrepreneurship and how to run a business and the training taught me exactly that, it guided me through process and answered my queries on product/service costing, customer satisfaction, etc and assisted me in preparing my business plan which guided me with commencing my business ultimately.”

The training sheds light on the concept of entrepreneurship, characteristic of successful entrepreneurs, self-evaluation, motivational factors for entrepreneurship, business selection process, business opportunities etc. In addition to that, market and marketing concept, salesmanship, identification of targeted customers and their satisfaction, market survey as well as products/service costing and pricing are also thoroughly exercised. The theoretical knowledge is always backed up by practical exercises, experiences and examples which makes it easier for the participants to learn, and understand the content of the training. Another graduate of EDT from Chapagaun, Ms. Hasna Maharjan shares “on the first day of the session, I thought it would be about generic learning sessions but that changed with each passing day as I realized that the content was rather practical and the knowledgeable trainers made it interesting to sit through the training. I learnt about the different concepts and ideas about doing business which encouraged me to want to open my shoe shop again. I used to own a shoe shop that has been closed for a while now and but this training has brought back my energy and reignited my interest in wanting to resume my shoe business. I also feel grateful that I had a chance to network with like-minded participants and learn from them.”

Participants from various background such as agriculture, restaurants, tailoring, handicraft, bakery, cosmetic, beauty parlor etc. have been been the part of the training thus far, many of whom have prepared business plans relating to their interests and some have established their ventures already. They have shared their appreciation for the training saying that it is participatory while expressing that pictorial demonstration, business video presentation, group discussion and the presentation have helped them keep enthused and interested during the length of the training which is five days long.

PARYA Sampada project is set to reach out to 600 project participants and is currently working with Lumanti, another implementing partner of the project to identify participants so to equip them with entrepreneurial skills.
